My son used to poo-poo daily but have suddenly started a pattern of pooing every 3 days for about a mth now. He just turned 5 mths. Doc says since he is solely on a diet of formula, there is no real reason for constipation issues except for a slow digestive system.... when he does poo, consistency is normal & he doesn't seem to be in pain. I still feel very uneasy and barley water has been suggested. He's on a diet of 30 oz formula + 2 oz water. Has anyone tried this or have any other comments?

It will all change when he starts solids... enjoy the last month of 'simple' poo :)

After reading lots on this subject, the main thing to remember is that constipation is not defined by the number of poos your baby does in a day. Unless your baby is producing very stiff poos, he is just fine. And like what crj said, enjoy it while it lasts!

I was having the same problem with my baby, also 5 months. She doesn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort. I went to the pharmacy at my local Park n Shop and they recommended Honey Suckle Tea, a clear sweet tea that they sell at the pharmacy premade in a glass container. They recommended 10ml, she loved it and made poo about 15 minutes later. I really like the natural remedies that I have come across both here and in the Middle East. No adverse reactions, but always watch baby closely for any allergies or problems. I am not looking forward the those solid, stinky poos either.

Thank you all for the positive feedback. Guess I shouldn't be over worried. He just started 1-2 tsp of baby rice and his "3rd-day" poo is due tmrw... Catdawn, which Park'n Shop? What brand is the Honey Suckle Tea, where made? Many thanks!

Hey, i am having a five months too. he poos every other day since he is more on formula started last month. i used to freak out but not anymore as his poo is like diluted peanut butter or clay. Now i try to potty train him - putting his two legs between mine and say "umm, Umm..." at the same hour every day (morning after milk), he will really poo and now whenever he wants to poo, he will make this kind of sound to alert me. Funny! Anyway, not a right way to potty train but just do the stimulation to help him poo :)

The bottle of Honey Suckle Tea is in Chinese, Jin Yin Hua Lu, in Chinese 金银花露,when I translated it, it translated to Honey Suckle Disclosed, so who knows. The brand name is Shi Wei Tian (食为天). my 6mth old son, who is on formula and solids, only poops every other day, sometimes every 3 days. As long as the stool looks normal and not hard there is no need to help the baby poop.

Some exclusively breastfed babies will go up to 10 days without pooing. As long as it is not hard, don't worry about it.
