if breastfeeding works on a demand and supply notion ... when i go back to work could i just do the morning feed and the night feeds on the breast. and have my helper give bubs formula during the day? would my supply dwindle down to nothing or could i maintain this level of supply to suit this schedule? bubs will be 3 months old then. many thanks...

You can totally do this - your supply will meet the demand. So you can do AM and PM during the week and as much as you want on the weekend.

Yes this will work, I did it when I went back to work - 7am and 7pm feeds and kept it going for another 6 months or so. The great thing was my breasts stopped producing in the daytime and so I didn't leak or have over inflated boobs whilst at work, but seemed to know to fill up as bedtime approached.

I didn't up my feeds at the weekend as crj suggests - that was just my personal preference to keep my body from getting confused - everyone's body works differently, some people can do that just fine.

Good luck.

Many women combine breast and formula called mixed feeding when they return to work. Breastfeeding in the morning before work, during the evenings/nights and on the weekends is a great way to re-connect with your baby and provide optimal nutrition. It will also help to maintain your supply.
