Hi there,
Having just moved from the UK to Singapore I was wondering what the 'done' thing as well as the safest option was when carrying your baby in a taxi?? Im told that you can just cary your baby with you as opposed to using your car seat? Highly illegal in the UK - can anyone help me on this ?
THank you, lisa

Many expats here use a Joeysafe harness, also known as a Freedom ride. Google to see what it's like. You have to order them on the internet and they take about 7 days to arrive. The locals here very rarely use a car seat, however since the drivers here are the worst on the planet yo may not wish to follow suit.

how old is your baby?
if your child is above 1 and of a certain weight, then joeysafe for its portability will be your best bet for taxi travel. you will need some practice to get a hang of it and develop a knack of ignoring impatient cab drivers or ignorant ones who tell you they are careful drivers and therefore no need for such devices. it will never be as safe as a car seat but better than nothing.
you no longer need to buy joeysafe online, you can buy it from motherswork at tanglin mall or great world city. it retails for about sgd120. alternatively, you can get it cheaper from an aussie mum who sells it too but unfortunately i have lost her contacts.
if your baby is below one and not very big, then an infant car seat is your best bet.

It isn't about 'law' it is more about child safetly. Do what you think is best for your baby.
If your baby is under one, you might want to combine a car seat with a kolcraft universal car seat frame - it is basically a frame with wheels, that you can snap your car seat into to make a pram - great investment.
If over one, the joeysafe is a very good option.

Dear all - does anyone know where online to get one (or two in my case) in HK? could not find anywhere!
Thank you!

I ordered mine from http://www.joeysafe.com/ but it seems the site is down at the moment - try again tomorrow?
There was a woman in Taipei selling them - but I am not sure if she still is tisha@lenoirphoto.com
You can also check out this thread which lists other harnesses too:

try motherswork, they have started selling it recently and their website ships internationally. only catch is from my quick look so far, the joeysafe is not listed on the site but i have seen it in their stores so you might need to call or email them:

another alternative is totengo and some parents on this site have reviewed it before too.
