Perhaps you mean 'marital' status.

I'm guessing you are trying to marry a Chinese citizen in China. I had this problem 20 years ago - trying to provide a document that does not exist in Canada.

Vital Statistics offices in Canada are under provincial jurisdiction, so you would spend a lot of time and money asking for documentation from each province which states that there is no record of a marriage.

I went to the nearest Canadian consulate and swore before a consular official that 1. I was not currently married, 2. I was single, and 3. I had never been married.

Good luck!

Assume you need to get both (i) proof of single status in Hong Kong; and (ii) proof of single status in Canada. For Hong KOng, it is relatively easy, file a form at the office in City Hall - takes 1-2 weeks. For Canada, it is a huge pain. Fill out form on line and wait, and wait and wait. If one single piece of information is missing on your form it will take forever for them to get back and then you have to re-file. Took me 6 months and lots of long-distance calls to Thunder Bay (where offices are) to prove I'd never been married in Canada. Good Luck.
