Gps and prescrition medication

My husband and I are moving to Disco Bay from UK in October,can anyone advise if registering with a GP is the same as in England,and are there any you could recommend in Disco Bay, we both have to have prescriptio medication,how are these priced. We will need to register with a GP soon after arrival, ThanKs

In HK people generally go to any doctor willing to give them lots of pills - not enough pills (btw, this could be for a simple cold), then go to another doctor.


There are medical/health centres in DB so you can go to one or all of them. No need to sign up. But you might find a particular GP you like.


This means you can go to one doctor near your home and one near your work. Or just work in off the street.


Oh, but check your health insurance first. Some company schemes require you to use only certain clinics/doctors.

Medicine in HK is reasonably priced. Many do not require a prescription (e.g. birth control pills) and can be bought OTC. Some require a prescription but can be bought from various independent pharmacies. I use two medicines which are both prescription in the UK, here I buy both OTC (legally) and one is a generic version at a quarter of the cost.


Many medicines also have generic versions which are considerably cheaper.


MIMS (the HK version of the UK formulatory or whatever it's called) can be viewed online and includes the costs of some medicines. There are a couple of other websites where you can check that your particular brand is available in HK.

Thankyou for your reply,we will be getting HK identity cards. My husband will be working for an Amaerican owned company, I am retired.

FYI, the HK ID cards are a legal requirement, not optional. Register within 30 days of arrival. But they are free, unless you lose it.
