Calcium is needed by all ethnicities. The RDI for a male is 800mg a day - a new study suggests 1000mg a day. If you are 70+ you will need more.
If taking calcium in supplEment form, you must include magnesium and vitamin D, otherwise the calcium in the supplEment will not be effectively absorbed. The optimum ratio for calcium/magnesium in a supplEment is 2:1, although this can vary depending on health. The RDI for vitamin D is 400IU.

Victoria Harrison, a registered dietician, writes a really interesting nutritional page in the Sai Kung area's Explore magazine and she featured calcium a while back. I'm sure I remember reading in it that, among other things, broccoli stems are a good source of calcium in local diets, so you might already be getting a regular dose of calcium. If you don't already eat the stems then you could start including them sliced up in stir-fries. I guess you know that if you like (tinned) sardine or cheese sandwiches then they can be a fairly effortless way to crank up your calcium intake.
