What do you think the best currency is to be paid in here?, say for example coming from England or Euro zone and used to respective currency, should i keep this if allowed here as opposed to HK$, as link to US$ its weak now? this assuming that the offer at moment is in HK$ only?

Not afraid, just what is best currency, eg offer is in HK$, but British for eg, which equates to 16.1 or whatever exchnage is now, would give me less GBP now than say 2 years ago, i guess it depends on where i spend most of money anyway

We shifted from being paid in the currency of our home country to HK$ about two years ago and didn't think of it until recently when the HK$ started losing it's value against the GBP.
Over the weekend we compiled a chart on excel and to our surprise found in the first 12 months we gained by about GBP9,000 and in the last 12 months lost GBP5,600 so in reality we have not been disadvantged. Of course that would not be the case if the HK$ continued to devalue against the GBP but it seems to have stopped it's decline.
As you say it will depend on whether you are sending money back to the UK. If that is the case you could negotiate to have half paid in HK$ and half in GBP and every quarter have payroll do a conciliation - I might add that they hate doing it but it is not uncommon.

Thanks for responses, currently paid in GBP and have obviously benefited over last 2 years, (all expenses in HK$), i may attempt to ask for the quartely rate fix on half salary in Sterling/HK$, have a home in UK and "other" contributions that need to be covered, question is whether the pound gets higher than say 16.5 again!, I can't see it, but you never know
