Hi - have recently installed my home theatre with 5 speakers - and have noticed that now TV reception thru my LCD TV is now not so good and VHS plays strangely too - all sort of wobbly and some tapes don't play in full colour. Could the speakers be interfering with the TV in some way, or have I accidently changed a setting somewhere - they are all connected up together......
Look forward to hearing any advice........

Check ur cabling and make sure everything is in all the way. Had the same setup with 5.1 and my LCD TV, no problems at all with my NowTv reception.

Car Lover - thanks for your reply - havent even attempted the now TV connection - its jostling for space with the Wii, HTS, 2xDVD players and the VHS!
Have checked all the cables and all OK - have worked out that the VCR is only suddenly having real trouble with the NTSC VHS tapes. Have recently bought a Samsung 40" LCD and have hooked all the equipment up to that - it has really bad terrestrial reception too...... Have just now moved back all of the appliances over to old Sony CRT TV and everything is working perfectly, including NTSC tapes. The cheap DVD player I bought to watch old/scrtched/copy DVD's is also now playing back perfectly on the CRT, but is really unwatchable on the LCD TV. The Sony DVD player is the only thing that works fine on the LCD TV. I am really confused as to why this should be! Does this all point to problems with some of the the connections on my LCD TV? Can understand the problems with the NTSC tapes if the TV isn't compatible (how do I find this out) Have disconnected the whole home theatre system (could the speakers be the problem?)
Sony CRT TV, DVD, VHS and MHC (home theatre)all purchased Overseas and NTSC/PAL compatible.
Samsung LCD TV and "Super" DVD player purchased in HK!

Since, right now, everything works properly with the Sony, does the Samsung work properly with nothing connected to it? If not, the problem is identified. If it does, then I would hook up one piece at a time to the Samsung (having first confirmed it is working properly alone), and check the tv and connected piece, each time you add something new. At some point either you will find a piece that causes problems - or you may have everything hooked up and working properly.

Thanks - will do this now as you suggested - in the meantime need some advice on a subwoofer for the Home Theatre System. Have a Sony MHC-S9D with two front (SS-S9D) and two rear (SS-RS270) one centre (SS-CT270) speakers. (Are these any good?) For a number of reasons, the separate sub was not purchased with this system in 2002 (not in HK) but now I'd like to get one! Have trawled the net searching for the model number but can't get any answers - does anyone know what it is or a suitable substitute. - Thanks

Agree with the steps given by ldldjr, was abt to give the same steps.
As for woofer, am not so familiar but i don't think u cld get back the same model and also in the market currently, everything comes in 5.1, which includes the sub-woofer itself. Cld try calling Sony HK and check with them if u cld purchase just the Woofer and make sure it suits ur player as well, as the connecting cable might not be compatible. Another way is to get a new set, not too expensive nowadays, less then 3k for a 5.1 home theatre.

Thanks, really appreciate all this advice! Have contacted Sony and am waiting for a reply. Am still trying out the connections with the LCD TV.
Am trying to use present Home theatre system if its in any way a good one and worth it (it cost about 6-7k HK when purchased 2002)- my aim is to make do with this in the HK climate (which I've heard is hard on this sort of equipment) and then buy a really good system to install in my home when I return. (Would appreciate any advice on good models, etc.)
Have also reached the point where I have loads (and I mean loads) of home movies on VHS and Digital 8 that I want to transfer onto DVD and have looked at a LG RH279H HDMI + HDD Recorder which I can apparently connect to the i-link on my camcorder and record everything from there onto DVD. Is this the best way to go?
Thanks for the help!

I hope you will update us on the "saga" when it comes to a conclusion.
I can't comment on the HK climate, having only passed thru the airport on occasion, and having spent only one night in a windowless hotel room some years ago.
However - I have had stereo and computer equipment in places a lot worse than HK ever was, or could be, and surprisingly things have always held up well! Floppies grew mold, electricity went up and down, but the stereos and computers ground on!
But, I too would wait to get good equipment until just before leaving, assuming the existing systems are adequate! Technology should have improved by then, so it makes sense to wait - IMHO!
