The reason i'm writing is hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction.
I am wanting to start up a small workshop for students that are academically challanged, Re woodwork, metalwork, craft work, jewellery etc.First a bit about myself. I've been in Hong Kong for 6 years working in international schools in Design & Technology as teaching assistant, technician (two of my students got the highest point for Design & Technology IGCSE in 2005) I don't have a teaching degree but have relivent experience in woodwork, metalwork and related crafts, I had my own light engineering business for 20yrs before coming to Hong Kong. Having worked with student here I've noticed a lot of them are good at working with their hands but haven't got what it takes to be doctors, lawyers etc.
The problem is where do i start?.
Is there a Government subsidy to finance it or suport from Businesses or Educational departments?.
If a fee is to be charged, how much?
Would I be entitled to a living allowance and Work Visa?
As far as machinery goes i'm sure there is a lot of machinery in schools and businesses thats surpus to requirement.
Would there be other people out there to help on a voluntary basis?
What would be the best area to set up in?
Would Schools and businesses be prepared to have their work done locally example Ventilation, dust extraction, knowing what local companies charge i'm sure we could be very competative.
I think its time to start thinking about the youth in Hong Kong and creating an opportunity for them in Hong Kong instead of everything being done in China then maybe there will be less suicides and crimes.
Is this possible or not?.
Your comments would be much appreciated.

That's a commendable dream, and I wish you the best. I think you have little chance of it being commercially viable (because of the mainland effect on pricing), so I would approach it as an academic and training project. That would steer you to the Education department first. Immigration will be helpful on the visa queries. Good luck.
