Good (upmarket) Japanese at IFC with teppanyaki. Also, do a search for any threads under "teppanyaki".

robatayaki - is also good. It's grilled skewers of things - very very nice. I don't know of any in central, but in Hung Hom at the harbour hotel a very nice place.

Rei Sushi @ IFC .... It's more than sushi, serving a lot of Japanese otoshi and hot dishes as well.

Kiku at the landmark also has teppanyaki and other cooked Japanese dishes.

If you are willing to venture out of Central there are lots of other choices. Yakitoritei - Happy Valley - serves the best yakitoris in town, better than Nanbantei in Soho or Causeway Bay. For tempura a visit to Ten Yoshi is a must. It's at New Henry House in CWB.

Kinsen is a new Japanese bbq restaurant on Elgin Street - it is absolutely fantastic, very understated place - don't be put off by the decor, the grub is delicious.
