I have found a lovely tutor to come to the house and tutor the kids in Putongua. My problem is - when it came to money she insisted that I tell her how much i am willing to pay first.


I hate that, and would normally walk away, but I like her and she specialises in young kids, with songs and games etc. Any idea how much an hour of private tuition is worth?

I was paying a lady $ 300 an hour, but we live in Clearwater Bay so it includes the transportation time and costs.

You need to be careful with not only the teacher's tuition but also the quality of the teacher. I have come across mandarin teachers from China who are not qualified to teach mandarin. I would suggest asking the teacher if they have done their mandarin teacher's exam and the grade they got.
