If I bought a regular small rice cooker (for one to 2 people) will it work for brown rice or only white? I had a nice one back home that had the fuzzy technology and brown rice feature. It was small enough. I don't want to invest in such a high tech one here since I don't use them much. So I wanted just to get the simple, small ones with just one feature.
Thanks for any advice

A regular rice cooker will work for brown rice - you need to soak the rice for a bit (say an hour) before cooking and use 1.5 times the water you would need for normal rice.

I use our regular rice cooker for brown rice. I don't soak the rice first, but I do add a little more water than I would with white rice.

our regular rice cooker does the job well too. I soak brown rice overnight in water so that it will be a nice softer texture when cooked. And yes, I do add a bit more water than when using white rice.

I used a small regular rice cooker and don't soak my rice. I add the same amount of water as white rice and it is still fine!

Agree with donkey1. After the rice has cooked, leave the rice to stand in the rice cooker for 5-10 minutes, and it will become more tender.

I use two cups of water to one cup of brown rice. It cooks in about 45 minutes.

What brand of brown rice do you buy and where? I usually get the one from Park and shop.

I buy mine from ParknShop too. I think the name is Green Spot.

soaking for at least 1/2 hour and using more water will do the trick.
