There is only one kind of squirrel in HK, which is Pallas' Squirrel. I've seen them in various locations around the New Territories, including in a tree at Tai Po Market KCR, and I know that they live on HK Island also.

A great web site for finding out more about all the creatures in HK is:

http://www.afcd.gov.hk/english/conservation/hkbiodiversity/hkbiodiversity.html

You can search for everything from squirrels to frogs to dragonflies, and they have photos of most creatures.

There are plenty of squirrels all over HK.

The "small park in Kowloon" you refer to, used to be much larger, before the hospital and various playing fields were sold of to developers. So the squirrels which have existed for generations, have a much smaller area to inhabit now, and therefore I guess are more likely to see!

Did you know there is a flock of (old and dying) c*ckatoos that roam Happy Valley, Mid-Levels, and probably a few other areas. They were released by the Japanese in WW2 and haven't been successful in breeding, hence they are all quite old. Actually, I haven't seen them in a few years - any sightins recently?

And there also monkeys in the NT, at the appropriately named Monkey Mountain!
