New rules for DVD purchases in Shenzhen?

Can anyone clarify what the situation is re buying DVDs in Shenzhen. We heard a rumour that, although customs have tightened up, you were ok to bring back a few but large amounts (i.e. a box set of a series) could be a problem. Anyone actually know what the story is? Does which border you go through make any difference?

Would it be advisable for two women on their own to be going into the back of shops to buy pirated DVD's?I have only ever been with my husband.
