Does anyone on this forum live in Beijing?
After 10 years in HK, and 13+ in Asia, we are moving to Beijing in 10 days with a 19 and 5 month old.
Any advice/comments?
Not asking specific questions, as I really don't think anyone on this forum is from Beijing .... but just in case :)

I'll still be here as the Moms And Dads forum is for ALL of Asia... I just think nobody else is in Beijing on this forum..
I have found 2 really great yahoo groups though that have been a wealth of information. And a site called thatsbj.com that has a forum that is okay too - but the moms and dads section is nowhere nearly as nice as this one!!

Once I am settled I will be in touch with LLL, I think maybe one of the ladies from Beijing Oranic Yahoo Group is a member...
We have been sort of planning for a few years, but now that the move has happened it is super fast so it is all about selling and shredding right now!

Crj, you lucky thing - I would so love to be moving to Beijing. I've also been in Asia for 15 years and we're now about to move to the Middle East - I was begging hubby to get a job in BJ or SH but it wasn't to be..... (also move in 10 days!)
I lived in BJ for 6 months about 7 years ago (in between 2 stints in HK) and loved it and we revisited this winter and it's looking fab - it'll be such an exciting time to be living there.
AND, your LOs will pick up mandarin - my 18 month old speaks loads and I'm gutted she's going to start losing it.
All the advice given by any of the China mummies is generally applicable to BJ - people stare, touch hair, touch hands etc, but you know all that anyway, people do it in HK too....
Anyway, am rambling now, but just wanted to say Good Luck and I'm very jealous!!!

Spicegal - wow, the Middle East! I have heard great things about Dubai, and have a friend here who lived in Bahrain for 2 years and loved it after a while. Moving is crazy isn't it... ugh.
Thanks for the encouraging words - yes, the kids certainly got a lot of attention when we were up there a few weeks ago, I was every so grateful little one was totally covered by the sling! The toddler on the other hand, loved the attention, my only concern is he will get totally spoilt! haha

Oh, and just in case you don't have enough to do already, finding baby cereal without added sugar is something that I haven't been able to do here in Beijing. Even at the pricey import stores. American brands Gerber [and the other one that I've totally spaced on at the moment] have refined white sugar as the second ingredient in the rice cereal made for the Chinese market.

cri, we are going to be relocated to beijing early next year and i am terrified. i have never been to BJ and have heard that the air is worse than HK, it's really really dry and the winter is really really cold. i have a 2 and a half year old and a 2 month old. would love to stay in touch with you so that when we finally move to bj, i can contact you and you can show me around BJ or at least advice me on how to go about doing things. do you mind giving me your e mail address? tx.
