My DH is a permanent HK resident (I am not) and our LO was born in HK.
Does LO need any special documents to travel besides a passport? Is there a re-entry visa for LO, or do we get a separate HK ID? Or can we just travel with passport and HK birth certificate?
Thanks in advance for advice/suggestions.

Thanks Cara. Do you (or anyone else on the forum) know the process to get the sticker, and how long it takes?
I was told that without the sticker (or something to that effect) that I cannot travel with baby, or rather baby could not come back to HK to live, only to visit (i.e., needs to leave in 3 months).

Ring the immigration before you go. you need copies of a few different things like both your passports photos and visa pages as well as other things that I can't remember....

You'll probably need copies of all 3 passports, copies of both parents' HKID card, copy of the birth certificate and to be on the safe side, take a copy of your marriage certificate.
They will probably want to check the copies against the originals.

We make an ID for our baby (DH is PR, baby gets PR ID) and just use the ID & passport when we travel.

Thanks for the replies. Have been playing telephone bingo with the Immigration people but alas I kept getting kicked off the phone queue because the lines were too busy.
Does anyone know which forms I should download and complete? I want to make sure my DH signs them before I bring them to the Immigration office.
Thanks.

They issue a no-photo ID for children under 11 years. Once they turn 11, they need to change it to photo ID.
Our son got his ID when he was 5 months old since we had to travel when he was 7 months old.
Now we just bring his ID and passport when we travel overseas.

Thanks for all the help everyone - guess we will be filling out the rop145.
Thanks again.

We got HKIDs for both kids when they are 3 months old. We also got their HKSAR passports together at the same time. It's SO much more convenient when travelling.... you must have HKID and a passport when travelling with children under 11 b/c there are NO photos on the HKID (as said already).
Differences in applying FROM overseas, and here in HK is when we applied HKID from overseas, they said we MUST apply for the HKSAR passport at the same time. However ,in HK, you can apply JUST for the HKID and no HKSAR passport if you don't want it yet.
We got both at the same time.

that's what i thought too. anyway, if the child's under 11 and has a HKID can they just go through the immigration channel by just swiping their cards or do they still have to go through the immigration counters?
Please support our advertisers:
cannot go through the channel, must go through the counters. When travelling with HKID for children under 11, (no photos) you must accompany the HKID with a valid passport of the child's.
