It would appear that you can only book your slot in the registry office 45 days in advance - is this the case and if so what's the likelihood of getting the time you want on the right day? - how can you book anything else (the party?!) if you don't know until then?
Thanks!

Just don't choose a lucky, lucky day and you should be okay.
Don't forget you are not tied to the registry offices; you can also use a civil celebrant to get married in HK.
BTW, in HK the civil ceremony doesn't always fall on the banquet/tea ceremony day.

Thanks for the help - ow do I find out about auspicious days? I do want the ceremony to follow on to the party for ease of the people flying in for it.

It is not as bad as it sounds. We got married last years at Mid Autum festival (the most romantic and auspicious day of the year). I booked online with the registry on the first day of booking and it was no problem getting the time slot we wanted. As it was mentioned above, you can have a civil celebrant (marinially more expensive that the registry) he/she will come to the place you want to have the ceremony in.

Aimee, looking at all our suggestions... how about you decide a date (check with a local friend or colleague who can look up the date in a Chinese almanac to make sure it's not a highly auspicious one), book the meal/entertainment/whatever and tell all your friends. Go on the website to book the date. If it is by any chance full, you can fall back on your Plan B - using a civil celebrant and get married in a more romantic setting than say City Hall.

Thanks loads for all your help!

I got married here back in 2000 and in June of this year I arranged for my friends over from the UK to do the deed at Cotton Tree Drive with only 3 weeks' notice. The marriage registry people near Pacific Place were very helpful and we got the time/date slot we wanted with no hassles whatsoever.
