No insurance for family provided?

ORIGINAL POST

My husband was recently hired here in HK and his company will pay for his health insurance, but they will not cover me or our two children. Is this a normal occurrance in Hong Kong? I'm not sure we will be able to afford the health insurance costs here.

Any advice?

Thanks!

if your husband pays a monthly top-up, they may be able to extend the cover for dependants (that's what our company does). you should get him to double check with HR.

Unfortunately he did talk to the HR person & they say that they don't cover dependants. Is there a law against this? Any regulations?

There is no law or regulations on health insurance and actually companies do not have to offer any health insurance at all, it is a perk. There is a very good public health system here which most people use and is very cheap.
