Hi, appear to have some difficulty recently with VISTA and before you ask...yes, legit copy. OK... here's the problem... On start up, sporadically, the screen appears in 3/4 version where there is a blank black bit on the LHS of the screen and the rest appears but consequently "cuts off" the last 1/4. Any ideas? Hope that came out in English! Thanks.

You don't say - does the computer run as normal, but with the partial screen? Is the Vista screen complete, or is part of it missing when it is in 3/4th mode? If part of the vista screen is missing, my first swag (guess) is hardware (faulty or improperly attached ribbon cable to the monitor?).
On the O/S side, update the video drivers for your display adapter and see if that fixes it - if not, try disabling the video adapter (this should put it in VGA) and see if the problem continues. If it continues in VGA then it is (probably) not an issue with your video driver or Vista. If the problem disappears under VGA, try once again, updating/reinstalling your video adapter's drivers.
Do a google search on your (computer brand, the specific video card, vista, "partial screen") and see if you get any leads. You can be sure, you are not the first person to have this problem.
How do you disable the video - right click on "My computer", left click on properties, left click on "Device Manager", right click on your display adapter and click on disable. When you are done tinkering just remember to go back in and make sure the video driver is enabled. You also do the above to check which video card (display adapter) you have installed in your machine.
