Cooking with wine for toddlers?

Hi there,

I try to cook just one dish instead of multiple dishes for one meal for my family, which includes our 17 month old toddler.

There are some yummy recipes out there that I think we will all enjoy but calls for a splash or up to a cup of (usually white) wine. Is it ok to use wine in cooking for toddlers? My husband reckons it's ok as the alcohol will all evaporate but I just want to make sure. If it's not ok, what are suitable substitutes for the wine?

Thanks!

I think it is fine. The alcohol evaporates during cooking. If you are very worried, grape juice can do in a pinch, but I'd go for the wine!

the alcohol will cook off and just leave the flavor. Should be fine for toddlers

haha, mrs M, you've caught me out. i'm an infrequent user of that other site, more of a reader than a poster. as you can imagine, you can get seriously flamed for asking the most innocent questions sometimes!

think is fine! make risottos for the whole family (w white wine) and babies love it!! Pumpkin risotto with tons of parmesan - eat it like there is no tomorrow (and they are seriously fussy eaters)... they are 14 mnths (will probably have social services on me now for giving them food with wine in it at 14 months!)
