green 55 minibus

For those of you who are familiar with the route of the 55 minibus into central, where it ends near the McDonalds, near World wide House... This bus used to be so convenient for me, but now that I have a baby, I prefer to use a taxi. The 55 ending point in Central is a good place to get dropped off at, but when I try to describe this spot to a taxi driver a) I end up at the wrong place (I once ended up at Exchange Square!) or b) the driver takes a long way to get there (going behind IFC next to the ferry piers, etc.). Anyone know how to explain to the taxi driver which I road/ route I want him to take (the same route as the 55 minibus). I live on Pokfulam Rd. Thanks!

I think if you say Central MTR, they should drop you off at World Wide House (on Connaught Road) just before McDonalds.

Try telling the driver:


Chuang's Tower, 30 - 32 Connaught Road (Eng)

Chuang's Tower, 30 - 32 干諾道 (Chin)

Chuang's Tower, 30 - 32 gon nok dou (Jyutping)


Chuang's Tower is the building right next to McDonald's.

Or you could use the map from AsiaXpat (with World Wide House as the focal point), highlight in yellow on the map where you want to get off and keep it in your handbag.


Show it to the taxi driver.


I do this often and always end up where I want to go.

Thanks for the replies so far. I tried saying Central MTR, Connaught Road today, but the driver still took a left at Wing On, drove along Queen's Road, left onto Pedder St and then left onto Connaught Road, to drop me off! I ended up where I wanted to but via an indirect, more expensive and congested route. As the driver turned left at Wing On, i asked why he did not stay on Connaught and he said he cannot make Uturn b/c of double line?? This is the kind of detour that drives me crazy, runs up the meter and takes up excess time. I just want the driver to stay on Connaught Rd and make the Uturn in front Exchange Square. Is there some rule that taxis aren't allowed to make that uturn? It seems that most drivers understand what my destination is. However, most of the time they won't take the direct route (as the 55 minibus does). Any ideas how to communicate to the driver to stay on Connaught and make that uturn in front of Exchange Square? (Or can someone explain why they take weird detours via IFC or Queen's Rd?) Thanks!! Determined to get to the bottom of this!
