Hello- are there any knitters out there? I live on the south side. If you're out there, where do you get your yarn? Thanx

There is a yarn shop at Tai Koo Shing on the floor right below McDonalds. The staff speak very good English and are very helpful.

I am in Happy Valley and the only shop that I think is worth going to is Paris in Causeway Bay. This shop has a huge variety of wool and cotton and silk yarns. I have not found a better one in HK. The staff do speak English and are quite helpful.

I am just curious...with all this knitting talk. How hard would it be for me to learn how to knit basic stuff. I have done some when I was a little girl but essentially don't remember anything.

Nic06 ... it's not that difficult to learn the stitches on your own with a book containing diagrams. But it helps to have someone to ask questions when you're working on a pattern. I'm pretty much like you, my grandmother showed me when I was young and I've taken it up (and put it down) several times over the years. Each time, it does come back though. The YWCA is offering some beginner courses. Check their website for particulars: www.esmdywca.org.hk

I am a self taught knitter and I use VOGUE KNITTING, THE ULTIMATE KNITTING BOOK as a reference. It shows how to do just about everything starting with the basics to very complicated stitches. I'm not sure if it is available in HK. I bought it in a knitting store in Canada. I have also seen the KNITTING FOR DUMMIES book, and despite the self-deprecating title (which I don't care for), the book itself is not bad for the basics.

Hi Infoseeker,

Sorry I don't have the address for the wool shop in Tai Koo Shing but look for McDonalds then take the escalator down one floor. The wool shop is almost under McDonalds.

I have found the staff to be very helpful.
