Does anyone know a reliable place around Central where I can buy basic house paint, brushes, turps etc? I know there are a few hole in the wall places in the side alleys but their selection tends to be very limited.

Hollywood road not far from the Pacific coffee and GOD walk away frm them toards western and it on the right side of the road. Lady is abrupt but knows her stuff and spaeak quite good english. Loads of paint choices if you wait a few days for them to mix/order them. I rate it anyway..

Clan - great, went there and got what I wanted. Good reliable place, well-organised, didn't get ripped off, and Fanny wasn't at all abrupt :)
