Hi

If you compare Kabul with Baghdad, then Kabul is certainly much safer.

It may look safe but doesn't mean nothing can happen. Kabul has a lot of security in the city and people generally move about freely. People are also friendly. I was there a few months ago on a short stint of 3 weeks. It seems to look fine apart from the dust, gabbage and poverty. Yet, one early morning as I was sleeping (6.45am), unexpectedly a roadside bomb blew up a military bus on a main road killing 5, just 400 yards from where I lived. Taliban attacks on more on military and UN vehicles are increasing. Try to stay away from such vehicles belonging to the military, UN and ISAF.

Many humanitarian workers, engineers and business men regulary travel to Kabul because of the reconstruction and aid work activities. Life still goes on. In fact the flights to Kabul from Dubai and Delhi are packed with all kinds of workers from different agencies. The airport has just been renovated.

Be cautious in your movements and try to have a trusted local with you. Generally be safe.

take care

Alby
