Hi. I am moving to Hong Kong from Australia in the new year with a boy who will be 3 in Feb and a girl who will be 1 in March. I have read some of the threads and am wondering if anyone can suggest good apartments with services such as swimming pools and playgrounds. I am also looking for a good preschool for my son that is not too far from where we will live. I have looked into the Parkview with PIPS but it is very expensive and we would like three bedrooms but I like the idea of all the services available there. Also, how do people travel within the city with kids, do you mostly takes taxis or the MTR? I will look at the threads about the car restraints when I get time.
Thanks, Kim

You may want to look into Discovery Bay. Only 25 mins on ferry to Central.

Hi Kim, I live in Robinson Place on Robinson Road in Mid levels and the building is lovely. We have a nice pool and brilliant childrens playground. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and we travel everywhere by taxi and then star ferry if we are going over to Kowloon. It is possible to walk to some places as well. Are you coming over with a husband? Where will he be working? I have only been here 2 months myself - which is good in a way to give advice as I am in the learning stage still and know what is important when you first get here.

I am in the same position. I will be joining my hubby in hong kong with my 2 little toddler boys 2 &3 year old from perth Australia. I have never been to hong kong before. I have heard pacific palisades is a nice place to live in north point with kiddie activity rooms and also adult aerobics and gym facilities. I will do 2 day a week study in central so I need to find a good child care centre? Also what are the winters like in hong kong? and what clothes do I need to bring? I have heard make up will just slide off my face from the humidity, any tips?

There are MANY buildings in Hong Kong that have gym, pool, play areas, shuttle bus, etc. It depends on your budget and where you want to be. Some areas like Discovery Bay and Repulse Bay are very nice for families but a bit seculuded if you like to have lots of activities. Mid-Levels is very convenient and lots of expats love it. New Territories, Kowloon, etc. are less expensive. It really depends on what you are looking for. But make sure you find out if the clubhouse facilities, shuttle bus, etc are extra.
The winter here is quite mild, it's the tropics afterall. You can leave the snowsuits behind. But be prepared for summer, you'll get used to it though.
You won't really find child care centers here. Best to hire a domestic helper, as most everyone else does.

we live in Stanley/Tai Tam, wonderful area with a bunch of beaches, watersports etc. We live in the Manhattan and it has fantastic facilities - the kids playground is excellent (they have just re-done it in June) and so it the swimming pool. There is a small gym and Stanley has a public playroom which my kids love. Do check Stanley/Tai Tam out before you decide on where to live and have a look at the Manhattan. There are quite a few pre-schools in the area as well such as Tutor Time and Woodland Montessouri (ours are starting in Woodlands in a few months) Best of luck moving!

If you go for the west side of HK Island, consider Bel-Air or Scenic Villas. Woodland/Panda pre-schools/playgroups may be of interest (http://www.woodlandschools.com/new/contact.htm)
