Has anyone worked with an independent adoption

agency in HK for overseas children?

We are Australian (not married) and looking in to adoption from Europe.

Thanks

Thank you for the reply.

SSHK does do the work but, our situation is very specific (not married) and we've been directed towards AU...

AU has directed us to HKISS because we've been overseas 16 ys, AU+HKISS has directed us to USCIS (I'm American but we want AU citizenship)..

SO, any ideas?

??? Thnx!

Arggh! that sounds like a "dead end".

Who did you speak to at HKISS? I do not have any more ideas off my head right now, but I'll ask around tomorrow.

I spoke with Annette and she was very kind but it doesn't seem that HK can help much if the couple is not married.

The policy is 3 yrs married for HKSS.

Shyloe, I was with one of ISS programme director slast night and was told there is no way they could help or any agency for that matter. Sort of a dead-end, really; unless you would move back to Australia for the adoption and come back here.

It's difficult to understand HK's regulation ( my head spinned from the "crash course " on inter-county adoption from her as I was more involved with the Domestic Helpers' programme. I squeezed her other options but she said sorry, they really cannot help .

I'm sorry too. I know how it feels as few years back I offered a "home" to an abandoned 4 year old girl whose mom went back to the Philippines and never came back but I was not allowed because I was single.

My husband and I used to facilitate adoptions from China in Canada. Several of our clients chose to get married and provide proof that they had been 'co-habitting' for several years. Others chose for one of them to adopt from China and then have the partner adopt the child in Canada - similar to adopting a step-child.

The jurisdiction from which you want to adopt may not allow unmarried people to adopt together, but single people may be allowed to adopt. You'll have to check Europe country by country.
