I am looking into beginning a PEKIP course with my little boy.
Does anyone have any past experience of this/recommendations?
Many thanks

Hi there,
we started PEKIP when our son was around 5 months old and participated in all following courses until he became to old.
In our opinion PEKIP is great as it is really focussing on your child's development. Anne (the teacher) is excellent in checking for every individual child which progress they are making and she can teach you a lot. We really liked to learn how to play with your child at home - even with self-made things as actually at this age there is no real need for many toys etc.
Anne has also been very flexible with the class schedule. When we went on holidays she offered make-up classes and you can check which time would be best for you.
Alternatively we did not check at many other playgroups in Hong Kong, only at Panda Junction, which we personally found "too much". There was too much activity around the kids and no real help in teaching parents how to handle the child and play with him/her.
My husband liked PEKIP so much that he tried to join nearly every class and he had a great time there.
Of course you have to accept some rules but you might have heard that already. Anne does not want the Maid to come with the baby (except for certain situations). Of course that's understandable. She can also give you some good advise on baby questions.
I hope this helps a little and if you join the classes there say hi to Anne for me please.

thank you Manuela - that's really helpful. Can you tell me which other rules there are? I hadn't heard of any.
Thank you

oh i forgot to mention the other one: usually the babies don't wear diapers until they are starting to crawl. of course if you don't want this you can leave the diaper on but the whole thing is about them getting a better understanding of their body as well - so usually they are completely naked (...which can lead to little accidents sometimes.....)

Hi,
I did Pekip with my son from when he was about 7 months. He was a late crawler/walker and I was made to feel I did something wrong. He really disliked the class and screamed every time I took him there. And interestingly, he was not the only baby to do so. I am sure it is great for some but I would not go back. Needless to say that now, at 1 1/2 he is running /climbing around with the best of them!
