are infant air tickets always 10% of a FULL FARE? i'm talking about cathay pacific. wouldn't it be free if the baby isn't taking up a seat?

hi...no it is free....just went to cebu and they charged hkd 590 for my 4 month old..am not sure of the % of full fare though...in our case it was more like 20%..

it is free - it is the airport tax that they charge, not the ticket, I understand

No, I'm pretty sure that it's more than the airport tax. We are always charged for infant tickets on CX, which is 10% of full fare. What makes me particularly angry is that when using asiamiles to redeem a ticket, infant tickets are not available at all !!

this is not unique to Cathay Pacific

there is no such thing as an infant airmiles ticket

you can however redeem a regular ticket for your infant

in some cases, you are almost better off buying the ticket for your LO because the discounted economy fare is not that far off from the infant ticket price and related taxes

Exactly. That's why I have never used airmiles to redeem a ticket for the little ones. It really makes me wonder why they would have such a policy. It seems to discriminate against passengers with small babies.

Hong Kong doesn't charge airport tax on infants and children. It is an airline charge and my experience is that it varies depending on which airline although 10% is common
