i heard u can get a hong kong number for your family overseas and then all calls to that number are charged at local call rates (free!). could u help if u have the details or provide feedback if u've tried it?

Have you googled "hong kong voip" ? I'm doing the same thing but in reverse, a Canadian number in HK. Works extremely well.
I think HK was later than some other places in approving voip, but was approved last year if I recall correctly.

in the past, I use Skype buthte quality is depends on the bandwidth.... so when I'm ovease, I use global calling card http://www.idtasia.net/en-HK/residential/global_calling.aspx so that I can save the roaming $$?
