Hi,

when my son was very little the pediatrician recommended Wyeth S26 but because he was very low in weight. Afterwards we changed to Nestle' HA1. Eventhough he is no "allergy baby" the doctor said it could only be helpful to use this formula in the beginning when they are starting to be exposed to so many things. Personally I would always recommend to ask the pediatrician about his opinion because he knows your baby and his development best.

we were recommended Aptamil by our health visitor, as she said it was "closest" to breast milk. Aptamil here is made in NZ, which i find re-assuring as well, not sure i was prepared to go for a "local" brand (if there is such a thing?)

What about Karihome goat milk powder? my friend had her 3 sons on goat milk and they turned out so well and so healthy which she highly recommanded. She b/f her sons for about 6 months then introduced goat milk. Her friends' kids are also taking goat milk and I may want to let my son have goat milk too. Anyone has any feed back on Karihome goat milk? Your input is welcome.

I'm mid-30 and when I was a baby I was already given APTAMIL by Milupa....it's been around for decades which speaks for itself.........my baby has been given Aptamil as well!

I always find it amazing that health visitors always recommend something that "is the closest to breast milk"! If that is so then why are all health workers recommending different brands?! Truth is there is not that much difference.

Our baby will only take Cow and Gate which like the post above I was given nearly 38 years ago! What stands the test of time.................

I started my baby on Enfamil, but he wasn't burping well. We then switched to Wyeth, which has been great. For whatever it's worth, I think Wyeth markets itself as the only brand with lutein in it?

My son is now 15 months old and he has been on Wyeth's S26 Gold Formula since birth. He's now onto the Stage 3 formula for toddlers. A lot of ppl say that S26 makes the baby gain weight, but my little one has maintained a healthy and normal weight for his age since birth. I think there really isn't a perfect formula, as long as your baby shows no allergies or regurgitates of the milk after every feed, then that's pretty much the guideline I think. Nowadays, all brands boast that theirs have all the goodness and nutrition that your baby needs, and in most cases that is true. I would suggest that the safest way to go is to choose one that is recommended by your medical practitioner and see how your baby reacts to it before considering another.

thanks for the links ms cheerful.

mmmm all these recomendations are confusing though. looks like a bottle cow and gate a bottle of karihome a bottle of aptamil and a bottle of nan ha and a bottle of enfamil or whatever else in a day and baby should be getting ALL the goodness of all the companies :))))

i am kidding of course..

just to add one more to the mix! my bubba is on Hipp Organic and no problems there. the lady from bumps 2 babes said that it's the only one (?) without added sugar. that was enough to help me decide. although i'm very sure they are all the same!!

It's all about marketing, believe me. My son was born in the US and when he was born, the hospital gave out sample of one brand and then another brand the next week - I was told that they alternate the sample distribution weekly. Go for the more pricey ones - they spend more on research and quality is much better than those cheaper one for sure.

Aptamil - you can find it in Mannings, and most Park and Shop stores, cant remember exactly how much it is I am afraid - never really looked, since have not choice about buying it! They have 3 milks - the baby one, then one from 6 months on I think, and then number 3 - Follow on formula - from 12 months - am giving it to my 15 month old twins (as well as normal milk) - think I will continue w formula till 18 months since they are fussy eaters, to make sure they get a bit of extra vitamins etc from it!

IDsvlln: formula milk is sweet, so i guess they all do have sugar.

I checked out the website of HIPP organic, and the ingredients doesn't list sugar separately, but sweetened whey. so go figure!

i'd love to find a non sweet formula for my baby.
