when we stay in for the afternoons, i usually put on a DVD for my toddler - Hi-5, Bob the Builder, Elmo's World ,etc. especially Hi-5, he used to love watching it but the past 2 times i've put it on, he starts panicking and crying. i thought maybe he wants me to sit next to him but that doesn't help the situation until i change the DVD!
i thought it was really odd, has any other parent experienced this?

at some point, babies become toddlers, and they understand and intake a lot more stimuli! Too much stimuli causes panic, and scared! (you know, too much excitement for little kids make them cannot sleep , and their active minds start thinking there are monsters in their closets and bedrooms...) Same thing for babies.... it will pass. Let them watch soothing music DVDS instead of cartoons and live shows like Hi-5 or Barney.

thanks for sharing! relieved to know it's not unique.
and while we're on the topic of DVDs, can anyone recommend fairly soothing (not overly exciting) English and Mandarin DVDs? our collection is currently limited to Pocoyo, Elmo's World, Hi-5 and Bob the Builder.

Mine have always loved the Wiggles. Age appropriate for toddlers (High 5 is for older kids)
There is a Wiggles website where you can buy the DVDs. I think they will ship everyone. Just need to check you get the right "Zone" for your DVD player.
The Winnie the Pooh stuff is quite gentle also.
