oh no...my 4 mth old bub hasn't poo for 13 days. i m thinking to visit my PD tomorrow, but should I be concerned? i breastfeed him exclusively and he seems perfectly ok, with no fuss, tummy ache, unusual cry or anything.
The PD's nurse said that usually doctor will insert something in the anus to let bb poo. sounds scary. should I wait for nature to take it's course, or visit the PD to induce poo??
love to hear from any of you who experience no poo for so long.

It happened once to my little girl when she was about 8 months old. I gave her 1 tea spoon of olive oil and that did the trick. You could also try kiwi or prune puree... But 13 days it's way too long!

This is cause for worry. It could be a simple blockage which the only real solution is a digital removal, if other steps have not helped. Or something more serious... If you have tried pear juice, prune juice, and maybe the olive oil- go to the doctor. Although, if you are strictly breastfeeding- stick to half pear juice ahlf water. If it does not work- do not wait. Even if it turns out to be a simple thing, think of how uncomfortable you would be- and how thankful your bebe will be!!

I have heard of this before. Some babies are VERY efficient at using the breastmilk at this age.
It is more common than you think. It is pretty alarming. But it usually comes to pass, coming out like toothpaste!
You might have success if you stimulate your baby's anus with a cotton swab and some oil on it. Don't poke it in more than just a teeny bit. Try to drink MORE water yourself. Lie her down and massage baby's middle and move her legs like she is bicycling on her back. Push the legs into her tummy...sing a song, make it a game.
Good luck, and be ready for The Big One.
cheers from Ruth

my bb poos every 5 or 6 days since she was 9 weeks old. Doc says there is nothing to worry about. I've heard that it's more common for baby girls. Think 13 days is abit too long though. I am giving her orange juice mix water. It doesn't seem much of a help really. Anyway, she seems healthy so i don't worry that much. Good luck with your little one :-)

same - when ours were small - 5-6 days. Our doctor said that up to 7 days is normal - 13 days is def too long. What did the doctor say?

Hi..i went to PD yesterday, and inserted suppository to induce my bub to poo poo. it works and plenty of yellow curry subsequently. However, what i m surprise is everyone here seems to be consistent that 13 days is way too long. however, my PD said it's ok (provided exclusively breastfeed, which i m) and that she has a client's bub who doesn't poo for 3 weeks! my part time maid's bub also didn't poo for one month! (exclusively breastfeed too). and i did an internet search, and it seems not uncommon for breastfeed baby to poo in longer days.
also, one tip i learnt my pd is to observe whether bub is uncomfortable if haven't poo for long time. one tip i didn't know was to observe whether bub latches on and off during breastfeeding. and being uncomfortable. it may be a sign of tummy ache as he/she drinks milk, while tummy digests uncomfortably.
I hope my bub won't have another such episode!
i hope my bub
