Did any one study Cantonese with CLC? Need a feedback about the results, classmates and the course in general. Would you recommend it?

Thanks

I did the Mandarin course there, and thought it was excellent. Small classes (6-8 max.), very little translation, different teacher every hour to get you used to different accents etc. I would highly recommend it.

I took both Mandarin and Cantonese classes at CUHK. The teachers are definitely very competent and classes are sufficiently small. However, I think the courses are overpriced and not really worth it in terms of value for money. So after I got the basics down I switched to studying by myself using textbooks and a native speaking tutor.

Did you do the full 2 yr program? Are you able to speak/read/write freely? I agree, 20K for semester, for a language course without academic degree on completion, is indeed VERY expensive. But besides self learning (which is not for me) I don't see any cost effective alternatives.

I took one module of the Cantonese part-time classes. After that I knew some basic phrases and was comfortable using those. The 20K you mentioned are for full-time study and full-time students take at least 5 different Cantonese classes per term. I can't really comment on how effective that is.

I did 2 semesters of Mandarin as a full time student around 10 years ago. The fact that I can still converse at a pretty decent level (although have neglected to parctice my writing, so can't do that anymore) says a lot for the standard of tuition there, to me anyway.
