I am new to Guangzhou and I have not been able to find vegetable oil. I have only tried shopping at Carrefour, but I may be missing it among all the peanut oil. Could anyone tell me where to find vegetable oil? Also, could you tell me what it looks like or what it is called (just in case I am missing it).
Thank you so much!

what do you define as vegetable oil?
i think sunflower oil, olive oil, camellia oil, grapeseed oil, corn oil, soy oil, peanut oil are all vegetable oils - aren'nt they?

You are right, vegetable oil is a blend of oils: corn, soybean, sunflower. At home I can buy this blend and it is labeled as "vegetable oil". I guess I should have been more specific, I would like to find an oil to use when baking in general. Any one of the oils listed above on their own would work for that... maybe corn being the best. I might not have seen it, the store is overwhelming! I guess my question is, could someone suggest a good "baking" oil I could get in the area?
Thanks!

I just use either sunflower oil or corn oil for baking - seems fine? sorry, am in HK and you can find all that stuff here no problem, not much help of course for Guangzhou... good luck!

In Guangzhou canola oil, sunflower oil and corn oil are all easily found. Most of them are one or the other. The one with the big yellow fish is fine for baking. I think it is canola. I'd use any except for the peanut oil, but peanut oil is really good for stirfrying veggies. Some of the peanut oil is mixed with other oils as well. Try a small bottle and if you like it, get the bigger one. There is generally some English on the label, or a picture designating what kind it is.
