I took my baby for home leave when baby was about 7 1/2 months old. LO had chubby cheeks and chubby legs and arms. Well now we are back, and after 6 weeks away, LO has a thin face and body, though probably taller now. Our helper commented that baby looks so thin and probably weighs less than before we left!
LO is very active now - crawling, climbing and trying to walk; also starting to "jabber/make talking noises" as well, and is just non stop.
Is it normal for babies around this age to lose weight and be thinner?
I am breastfeeding fully still, and do give a couple of solid meals a day (just 1 - 2 ounces of a fruit or a veggie per meal) - what can I do to make baby gain some weight?
Thanks.

Hi MumBee,
It's normal for babies to appear to be thinner (but not necessarily lighter) as they grow coz they become more active and they gain more muscles and lose more body fat. You should take your baby for a weight and height check to see where he/she stands on the chart, then you will have a better idea if your baby is doing ok or not.
When my girl was at 7.5M she took a lot more solid food than your baby. She used to have half a banana or 3oz of apple puree with a cup of yogurt for breakfast; then 4oz of veggies and 4 oz of chicken for lunch; dinner was 4oz of veggies and 4 oz of pasta. But every baby is different though, best thing is to check with your doctor! =)

I agree most babies look thinner after they start moving more and most "fall" on the growth charts around that time too. I wouldn't worry too much but just check to see how much/if she really lost. My son was also eatting a lot more solids at that age but I also know babies who where breast fed EXCULSIVELY for the first 12 months and did just fine. You need to do what you feel comfortable with. Also keep in mind that for most Asian cultures people are either fat or thin and there is no in between, your helper might fall into this category.

i don't know about gaining weight, but mine is a week away from completing eightmonths, he's very active, crawling, sitting up talking away etc and he eats a ton...
pasta, congee, tofu, pureed veg, chicken beef, egg yolks, cream cheese ANd he drinks a lot of milk (BM) though usually at night.

Research has shown that breastfed babies do grow at a slower rate and gain less weight in the second half of the first year. I suggest you see a health care provider to assess your baby's weight and development using the new WHO growth charts based on breastfed children.
