Hi everyone, i have been giving BB Aptamil (first stage) formula since BB was 2 months old. Only for her 11am and 11pm feeds. She has BM for the other feeds. Now she is 3 months old. When should we change her to the 2nd stage one? Or not necessary? Pls kindly advise. Thank you.

you should check with your baby's doctor for the final word on this...

from my experience, i used the 1st stage formula (enfalac as it's known in singapore) for his 1st year and switched to cow's milk once he turned 1. some of my friend's changed but i thought since the 1st stage formula said suitable until 12 months old, i didn't see the need to change.

Well2, here in HK Second stage formula is from 6 months, and 3rd from 12 months - dont think it is necessary but I did switch. what the hell... I have also switched to 3rd now - even tho you can totally move onto normal milk at 12 months, I like the fact that mine two are getting a bit of extra vitamins etc, as they are not very good eaters... So we give them normal milk at 2.30 and Aptamil number 3 morning and bedtime.. Hope this helps!

tks. Just wanna be sure. Since she is having Atpamil stage 1 now. Should i change her to stage 2 when she reaches 6 months? And do you know where i can get Aptamil in HK? I bought mine in the UK, but running out soon. Becos this is a UK brand, i am worried that the doc in HK have no idea about it...

Pls comments. Tks.

you can get it in most Park and Shop (where do you live?) and Mannings. It is NZ made, so should be good. I did move mine to stage 2 at 6 months. Good luck

Follow on formulas have a slightly higher protein content and slightly higher levels of some electrolytes. The Journal of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology Mar/Apr 2000 state there is no nutritional reason to choose between the different sorts of formulas and it is best to stay with the starter formula through the first year. However, please consult your pediatrician or baby doctor who is familiar with your baby.

we found the stage 2 milk (6m+) made my LO constipated, so just went back to stage 1 (birth-12mths) after that will just move to cows milk ... poor guy cried desperately each time he had a BM ... only took a couple of those screams for us to make the connection to the change in formula, and moved him swiftly back to his starter milk
