Hi, have you taken a look at the Lonely Planet gap year guidebook? I'm pretty sure they have suggestions in there. In fact, I think their regular country guidebooks often include info about charities that one can get involved with. One that comes to mind is the Christina Noble Foundation (you can google it). When I was in Cambodia, there was a charity on the beach in Sihanoukville that provided children with materials and training for painting, and they then had something to sell to tourists besides cheap trinkets (or their bodies). I'm not sure what it was called, but these days you can find out a lot by googling.
