how much egg yolk & carbs at dinner

Would like to introduce hard boiled egg yolk to my 8.5 mth baby boy, but not sure how much to give. He is quite a big eater so I am sure he will eat however much I give him. Is one whole yolk too much protein for one sitting? Is it necessary to give egg yolk 2-3 times a week?

2nd question - read somewhere that protein takes longer to digest so it's best to give at lunch instead of dinner. What about carbs? Is pasta ok for dinner at this age? I've been introducing all his tofu/meat/protein etc at lunch, all his dinner so far has been fruits & veggies.

I would think that having something filling like protein at dinner would be a good thing.

I never worried about anything taking longer to digest, personally.

One egg yolk is fine at a time.

It's not necessary to give it 2-3 times a week, but it's a very healthy nutritious food and so easy to prepare.

Do a search on this site about feeding babies...there are some brilliant posts!

hi mum bloxy, i don't consider myself an experienced mum at all, but will just let you know what baby eats for dinner when he has rice or pasta.

i broke some pasta in ablender as he is not really fond of big pieces of anything. Usually i cut about 5 green beens and blend them raw, then cook the pasta )1 heaped tablespoon raw pasta) toegther with the green beans then mix it in a 25 gram of portion of cream cheese with it. this usually comesto about 6 ounces of food that the baby eats.

Same with congee, i make some stock of congee and keep in the fridge(quite thick), then take other ingredients , and some veggies like broccoli or carrots or whatever and reccok with congee about 3 heaped tablespoons of cooked congee and the add egg yolk ( one whole boiled one ).

soemtimes i cook taro and carrots (3:1 ratio) puree that and add boiled tofu ot it.

(taro is the big fat root tuber which when cut is white inside with some pink specks).

i read someplace that giving baby more proteins helps him feel 'satisfied' for longer.

i just use the feeding bowl as reference. i know he eats between 4-6 ounces of solids so i fill it up to mark with whatever and feed him.

not very scientific i know....

my baby loves his pasta dinners. I use capellini (DeCecco) that are very thin and cook in two minutes. However i still need to break them into pcs that are about 2-3mm long and cook them more as bubs doesn't seem to know how to chew. i tried with the letterine that are supposed to be for babies, but they were also too big.

egg yolk mashed with avocado and yogurt was a huge hit for us - high in all the good things babies need.

We did egg yolk M-W-F.

You could easily make it creamy and put it on pasta :)

My baby wouldn't eat a boiled egg yolk to save her life -- we tried again and again and again. She loves scrambled egg yolk though -- I separate an egg, put the yolk in a teacup and mix it around with the end of a chopstick and then microwave for a bit [15 sec in my microwave] then dump it out and cut into small pieces that she can pick up with her fingers. She'll also eat this with most any kind of minced veg mixed in as well.
