I have just come back from the Shangri La and had a fantastic time! Not too sure whether it's a place for people without children though.........

If you are in for a quiet holiday I can highly recommend the Alegre. It is a wonderful place - we stayed there for one week in late September.

i have been to cebu several times...go for shangrila...they say shangrila cebu is the best in asia. i have been to most of the hotels you mentioned as well. a bit pricey though :) 300usd a night :)

Shangrila or any of the mactan hotels are quite far from the "city" proper so be prepared to jump in a taxi (which is sometimes difficult to get!) if you want to spend some time out and about.
Shangrila is very nice, what you would expect from a five star (or four star), brand name hotel

Depends what your looking for, we stayed 12 nights at Abaca and had a wonderful relaxing time. The staff are wonderful, the food great and the villa very comfortable. It is however very quiet which suited us but not for everyone. The hotel will take you free of charge to the shang for lunch or dinner if you ask them. We find the shang way too big and noisy with loads of groups of couples on honeymoon packages dressed in identical clothes.
