Maribago Bluewater, Hilton Cebu, Shangri-La's Mactan Island or Alegre Beach Resort?

We have stayed at the Hilton twice and also Alegre, i loved the Alegre but it is quite a long drive. It was very quiet when we went and as we had booked a luxury package with CX holidays the hotel gave us two rooms and turned one into a sitting room etc for us. The rooms are very spacious with great bathrooms and very romantic. We sat on the verandah sipping champagne in the evening (it was my 40th Birthday)

The Hilton is nice and close to the airport, the food is good but the rooms are not as good as they could be. The beds are a little hard and there is not much room around the bed to walk and as the bed has hard wood corners it makes for sore shins. The staff are great though and they now have a shuttle bus to take you to Cebu if you want to explore.

We have been at the Alegre as well as the Maribago.

The Alegre is just wonderful, the rooms are fantastic, service is good and the food is great. There is a Marina Park right at the beach, great for snorkeling. Diving at the house reef is fine. Boat trips to some neighboring islands can be arranged.

The Maribago is a fun place - very good value for money. The rooms are nothing to write home about, but clean and comfortable. Service and food are good. There are many diving & snorkeling sites within 20min by boat from the hotel.

It depends what you're looking for and how long you have.


Alegre is possibly the best of the lot for a complete getaway/romantic/celebration holiday and is more up-market than Maribago (although Maribago is also fine value).


Alegre has 3 private beaches and is on a (supposedly!) protected marine reserve - the time spent from/to the airport is worth it.


Only downside is that there's not much else in the area however unless you're into shopping in Cebu city there's not a whole lot else to do anyway.


Hilton and Shangri La are fine but you could be in their hotel chain anywhere.
