We plan to ship our car (bought in HK) back to Aus. Can anyone help with info on what inspections we need done? I can't locate an Australian website. Thanks

Hi there, usually the Transport Departments are run state-by-state. If you are going to (for example) Queensland, just google Queensland Transport Depatment. You should find the link there. The Australian Consulate in Wan Chai also has all the information and forms you need to fill out. Depending on the car, you might need to do a pre-inspection here first. Usually for older classics only though. Good luck.

www.dotars.gov.au is the website and it gives clear information. We shipped a couple of years ago and about to send another home.
It is VERY important to get your approval to ship BEFORE you load the car onto the ship. Friends did not get approval first and were not able to offload in Australia.
Before shipping we had the gas in the air conditioning unit certified as the correct gas for Australia. Did not have to remove gas. Attached certificate to papers given to the Shipping Agent
Also had the engine, underneath the car as well as inside steam cleaned. Asked for certification and atached with papers given to Shipping Agent.
All this work carried out in HK ensured that we had no problems with customs in Aust.
Good luck with it.
