You should move to London - It has the most amount of jobs and is a big city like Hong Kong.

London is great, if you are going to live in UK for a few years - then def London! anyway, you can always travel around a bit and see if you want to move elsewhere but start in London (that is where jobs are anyway). Expensive indeed, but I find HK more expensive than London by the way...

Surely it depends on how you want to live - London is expensive, but you will be paid better there, have more chances to meet people, have better and more varied job opportunities, better transport links to get abroad - it's a typical big city - however, if you want a quieter life then there's other cities to consider still with the benefits of being near London (Oxford, for example).

If you've not lived in the UK before and are coming from HK and wanting a similar lifestyle, then London may be your best bet (or maybe Leeds or Manchester if you fancy being up North).

What kind of industry do you want to work in and what kind of lifestyle do you want?

well, there you go then, seems like you dont have that many options! finding job on your own unless you have a UK passport is quite a story, so go and enjoy London!

Central London is expensive indeed but very convenience. South Kensington & Chelsea are both posh area. Pimlico or Tower Hill are also nice places.

You might need to live a bit far from London if you are looking for a lower price. Then you should have a car for your own.

I've moved from Reigate, Surrey to HK & its a gr8 place to live if you are planning a move to the UK.

You get the perfect mix of tranquility whilst still being in the London commuter belt.

Am not sure as to what level you are at within your job sector but there are a lot of company HQs based there or near enough.

House prices might be an issue though as definately not cheap!!

London for banking sector is the only option as far as I know. There are nice suburbs - South London slightly cheaper than North London. I am London born and bred and we lived North of the River in West hampstead with good links into the city of London and loved it. If you move a bit further out, you'll get better value for money.

You should get a serviced apartment to start with and figure out your budget and the maximum commute time. Then you will find it easier to decide. London is a much bigger city than Hong Kong so in my opinion you will need to do some research on housing but it has lots of benefits - beautiful parks, amazing culture, theatre etc and is stroller friendly (unlike HK) It is expensive but then so is Hong Kong but then HK has some great beaches, good weather and offers a different lifestyle - Both have their benefits. There must be some websites for expats in London too. Why dont you google them and see!

vick - we lived in Islington/Clerkenwell area, which I just adore - it is v close to City/West end (you can walk into City where most banks are) and get into west end in 15-20 min. The one drawback - the area does not have parks (Regent park is the nearest at 20 min away) - but if you dont care for parks - amazing area to be in! Great restaurants and shopping. Anyway - if you are looking to rent a 2 bed, it will set you back in the area of GBP500 or so back - for a nice place. Of course there are 1-beds and there are cheaper places. But this should give you an idea. This is something like Hk$7,500 a week - $30,000-40,000 a month.. Of course, the further out you are the cheaper it is (and vice versa)

have look at areas in south east london, places like east dulwich and parts of peckham. here your avoiding the insane prices of places like chelsea but are still in inner london. lots of bars, restaurants, transport links to pretty much anywhere. 10 minutes on the train to the business district. fairly reasonable prices.

london is expensive to live in but your garenteed to find a job some where, and employees get £1.22 on top of their pay as 'london allowence', and truth be told you can find anything you want without much effort here.

if your used to living in a big city like HK then start in london.

Do you know how much the rent would be for a three bedroom in chelsea area or south kensington? And how much would the basic utinlity bill be for a young couple? If it is not so much to ask how much to investment bankers get paid at a senior level in london say VP level?

Thanks.
