Hi,
I read that by 1 year old, i should get a cup to replace his bottle (milk)? what cup is it? sippy, straw or just an ordinary cup?

sippy cup or generally whatever the baby would take the milk in. Ours are 16 months and I still have not managed to replace the bottle, the thing is I really want them to have their milk and they wouldn't unless it is in a bottle.. :(
Wonder how many mum managed to switch at that age tho - everyone I know up to 2.5 yr olds are still going with bottles.. So good luck!

Honeypie, a friend (Lolly) swithed her girl's bottle to ordinally cup just when she turned two. She said she tried it on for a a while until her girl gets the idea of drinking milk from cup then only she fully given her cup for milk. Knowing her I believe she did it with a lot of determination and patience. One year old is still a little too young for cup unless you don't mind him messy up and waste a lot of milk for a while :) your baby is smart, he will learn it in no time if you spend TIME training him.

depends on your kid-level of attachment to boob/bottle might affect how well he takes to drinking milk from a cup.
we have been on the munchkin brand straw cup for milk and water drinking since he turned one - as in totally off bottles. but that didn't happen just one day, a few months before we started giving water in a cup and then some milk in a cup before completely eliminating the bottle. it'll take time.
good luck!

After reading all the replies, I don't feel so bad that my LO (1 y.o.) is still taking milk from the bottle! I've used the avent sippy cups relevant to my LO age, but the spout is so hard, that she just can't suck on it. So in the end, I also resort back to the bottle for milk feeds.

I have the same question too .... not sure when to abandon the bottle. Baby is BF morning and bedtime and bottlefed at 3pm. But since he's taking less and less at 3pm (sometimes he just doesn't want the milk) I have no problem replacing the bottle with cup. The biggest challenge would be how to replace the BF with a CUP at bedtime, coz he needs that sucking comfort...
People said have to abandon bottles at one year coz don't want them to drink too much milk from the bottle which turns off their appetite on the solids. In fact how much/ how many milk feeds do we need to give at one year? Mine tends to drink very little if not direct BF... should I be concerned?

I think the "advice" is to try to switch from the bottle at 12 months, not so much from breast - due to the fact that bottle is not good for teeth (am not 100% sure why, but that is the reason) - have not really seen anything on breast not being good for teeth... but then again by 12 months surely babes have a pretty good set so bf becomes a bit more of a hazards anyway, no?

I think no matter it's bottle or breast, if nibble off to sleep it's unhealthy to teeth.
Mine just have 3 teeth so it's not yet too hazardous for me haha... but I'm thinking to gradually wean him off the breasts (sooner or later) that's why I ask...
