Computer Disposal

I have a couple of computers lying around the flat after 'upgrading' over the years. I don't even know if they still run, but they do have sensitive information stored somewhere on their hardrives.

I want to get rid of them, but how to do so without having to try and connect them back up (that is if I even can) and overwrite the hardrives....? I am concerned that if I just throw them out someone somewhere may be able to access the information on them. Not being stunningly computer savvy on the hardware end, does anyone have any thoughts, ideas, low-tech solutions or suggestions ?

Low-tech solution = open them up, remove hard drive, hit hard drive with hammer multiple times. That should stop anyone accessing your data.

Smokin,

There is an IT consultant that will ensure data destruction and recycle the metal. Home and Office IT services on 66224730 - a tech will pickup the old drives on a cost neutral agreement - that is he will cover the costs from selling the scrap.

They also have a confidentiality agreement that says "I fix, I forget" if you wanted to keep using the drives.

Jack.
