Welcome to Beijing ! I am Phoeny, i can speak good english and be your guide if possible, but i only can work for you on weekends. Last month, a couple from London, they visited Beijing, and i was their guide, we went to The Great Wall, Forbidden City, The Temple of Heaven, and we went to Shan xi province to visit the Hanging Temple and the Caves... Days here are sunny but a little bit colder now, you must take some coats and prepare for the wind, because in Beijing this always happens. Anyway, you also can go to www.guidesinchina.com to select a guide there.
wish you have a good day today !! (i am based in beijing)

You can also buy a 'package' from Dragonair holidays which will include air travel, pickup and return to airport, hotel, car/driver and English speaking guide. Breakfast is included in the hotel deal and most meals during the day whilst you are touring around.
Overall an extremely good deal and well looked after.
As the other posters above have said the weather is cold in Beijing now and the wind can be icy.
Enjoy it, it's well worth the experience.

Went to the Great Wall , Badaling last week. It was cold in the early morning but when we reached the Wall, it turned sunny, lovely weather for the hike. I had to take off my jacket to tie around the waist.
Regent hotel(excellent) , Park Plaza & Crowne Plaza are just around the corner to Wangfujing street. Regent is a good choice (room, service etc), easy to move around and have lots of restaurants' nearby.
For family travel, Lee Garden Service Apartment (also in Wangfujing locality) is worth considering, since it's apartments comes in several bedrooms' combinations. Stayed there once.
Tianamen Square, Forbidden City , Bell Tower, Temple of Heaven, Beihai Park, Hongqiao Silk market is 5- 10 mins taxi ride away from Wangfujing street.
The famous tourist spots which take longer to reach is Summer Palace, Great Wall, Fragrant Hills(cable car for an awesome view), Beijing Botanical Garden & Ming Tomb.
The famous Quanjude Peking duck restaurants have several outlets, one is in Wangfujing street itself ( I think it is just round the corner to Dong An shopping store). I find it a bit too oily but good ambience and well presented. In fact, some of the other local restaurants around the Regent hotel does serve a good duck, at half the price.
Depending on what you are looking for, shopping centers are all over.

Was in Beijing last week and the weather was between 3-15. Definitely bring something to keep you comfortable if you intend to stay outdoors.. I found that heaters indoors and in taxis were too warm that a pullover is more than enough to make me sweat a bit.
Air quality was horrible within the city--keep those taxi windows closed.
Nothing fantastic about Wangfujing, in my opinion if shopping is your agenda. The shops there can also be found in HK and the prices are no different.
Great Wall was fantastic, don't miss it.
For tourist traps, there's Yashow, Silk Market 1&2,..Bargain really, really hard. Shopkeepers seem like they are shouting or upset, but it's all just show. You'll find all the copies in these buildings from CK to NorthFace to Rock & Republic jeans, but there are Chinese brands as well that are good value for money. Mst shopkeepers speak some English, and I was surprised that some even can speak Spanish!
We gorged on fabulous set dinner at Bai Mansion. Just ask your concierge for directions.
