my baby wakes up at 5.30am every morning!!! arggghhh! i pushed back his dream feed to midnight. i would do it even later but i just can't stay up as i have to work the next day. at 5.30 when he wakes up, he is wide awake and wants to play and then at about 7am he will go back to sleep for 45 mins or so and then wake up for his 8am bottle. he is definitely waking at 5.30 out of habit and not cos he's hungry. i've tried everything - rice cereal in his dream feed and he has black out curtains in his room. any advice is very welcome!!!

Welcome to motherhood!! My daughter was bang on 5.30am every morning and this continued from the age of around 6 months until around 2 years old. She is now 4.5 and regardless of what time she goes to bed (usually by 8pm) , she is awake by 7am at the latest. I think to myself, at least she sleeps through the night. Interrupted sleep during the night is much worse than getting up early in the morning. I reckon you just need to ride it out, that seems to be what his body clock is telling him. The only thing that you could try is keeping him up a little later before the last sleep.

mine wakes up at 5.30 am as well. same like yours. apparently hubby did the same as a baby (he still does to this day!!!).
According to marc weissbluth(?) you should try to put your bed earlier. i still haven't managed it.

It was the same for me with my son when he was 3-4 months.
We have done like this:
The 1st week, we didn't wake up at 5:30am, but left him cry a bit, around 5min.
So 5:35am he got his milk.
The 2nd week, 5:40-45am / the 3rd week 5:50-55am ...
And after one month and half he was sleeping until 7:00am.
And at 7:00am I had time to give him the baby bottle, and played with him few minutes, just before going to work.
Good luck.

"When they get older, they sleep later....."
and when they reach their teens, you can't get them out of bed until lunch time.... difficult to say which stage is more unsettling!

mine is nine months old, he was waking up and playing at 5.30 for about three weeks. no amount of cuddling nursing in the dark etc worked on making him sleep, then one fine day he woke up as usual and went back to sleep after being nursed. i hope your baby does the same. not being a morning person i sympathise with peope who are forced out bed early....
