my almonst 14month old girl always cries when she wakes up from her naps and when she wakes up in the morning. Why is this does anyone have a similar experience?

before we went on holiday in september (we've been back for a month already) she would not cry when she wakes up in the morning but she would cry after her naps. she has become more clingy to me and i'm wondering if this is why she cries when she wakes up. i dont think it's the dark because we do put the night light on at night.

nice to hear from anyone as i'm worried that she wont be independent!!

just a little bit info-my daughter does wake up 1-2times/night and we use pacifier to get her to sleep

The best way to teach a child independence is to make sure they feel secure enough to move away. So give your baby lots of hugs and cuddles when she wakes up. In no time, she'll stop the crying. The traveling has made her feel insecure...waking up in strange places can do that to a baby.

Hang in there!

it just feels as if i've done something wrong like not getting her to learn to comfort herself, you know i've also been told many times to let her cry otherwise if i keep going in to her room she wont know how to sleep on her own. but i'll persevere and give her xtra TLC like you suggest

they say that around 14-15 months babies start getting this fear of abandonment - they kind of start thinking "what if she is not coming back" when you leave them. Like ruth said - lots of cuddles and say things like " I will be back when you wake up" - they will eventually get it. Ours did the same - it is just a phase and this too shall pass!! Give it a couple of months.

it could be a separation anxiety issue or it could be just a simple case of being overtired, not having had enough sleep and therefore waking up in tears.
