hi

Anyone know the answers to:

1) once you have boiled the water how long is it "safe" for before you need to make more boiled water - how long for room temp and how long for in fridge.

2) Same question as above but for made up formula- ie you mix the powder with the cooled boiled water - how long is it "safe" for - at room temp and in the fridge

3) If the baby has a little bit of the bottle - is it ok to give the same bottle for the next feed - if stored - at room temp - or fridge

anyone know the answers to the above please let me know!

thanks

Check with your formula company. They most likely will have a comprehensive website and toll free number. Or google this info.

- water in fridge - 24 hours, same with formula - 24 hours and has to be thrown out after that.

- I would throw out anything that baby did not finish, do not keep it - once you warmed it up you have to give it to the baby within an hour or so (that is what the formula packets say?)

- boiled water to make formula - I sometimes leave it for 4-5 hours and then make formula.

- if you are out and about and dont want to carry water in the formula bottle for too long - I just buy bottled water and use that..

but as Ruth said - these things are normally written on the box

The UK Dept of Health (2006) has issued revised guidance on the preparation and storage of infant formula milk.

The key change is that reconstituted formula should not be stored in the fridge

According to revised recommendations

· Feeds should be made up using water that has been boiled to a temperature of 70 degrees or more, water should have been left to cool for no more than ½ an hour

· Freshly made formula should always be used, and any left over should be discarded

· If a feed is required for later, just-boiled water should be kept in a sealed flask to make up fresh formula when it is needed, or liquid ready made formula should be used

· The temperature of the feed should be tested prior to use, and if too hot it should be cooled under cold running water with the cap covering the teat
