grasshopper, shipping of large items is indeed expensive. If you work and your office has a contract with TNT UPS etc you can ask them to organise the shipping. this could work out cheaper. You will need to pay upfront first, and give them the details of where and when to pickup the goods. However, there is another problem with itmes that are expensive ' you might need to pay import duty on them. So double check this information before, as your parcel can be held by customs, after which you'll need to shell out more cash.
