Charity donations as Xmas gifts

ORIGINAL POST

I recently read somewhere (magazine i think!!) about a website where you could give money to a range of charities as a gift to someone else. Ie. instead of giving a gift to someone you donate in their name. I believe the organisation then sends an acknowledgment of the donation to the person.

Anyone know what the web address is ...or similar?

I may have seen it in a recent womens mag...maybe an Aussie one??

I have done this through Oxfam Unwrapped in the UK for Christmas and birthdays but now it's available in HK and I use that instead - a big advantage with the current exchange rates although the choice is limited (only a dozen or so 'gifts') with the HK site. The person gets a card and you get a receipt for tax deductions.

Foolonahill, I think you are being rather harsh and jumping to conclusions. I am trying to source a website where people can donate to charity as a 'gift' because my partner has explicitly requested that he would rather have donations to charity made in lieu of Xmas presents to him ,this year. I would like to notify people of this so, should they choose to 'give' to him, they have a place they can do so, without inconvenencing to themselves.

Furthermore, I'm not sure that many people know that charitable donations are tax deductable. i certainly didn't!!!
